  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions' Portland Oregon office is looking for an experienced Safety and Environmental Trainer to join an experienced team of industrial hygienists performing training for established clients in the Pacific Northwest.


    Job duties include providing health and safety training that includes (but not limited to) the following topics: OSHA asbestos awareness, asbestos class III refresher, OSHA lead worker, OSHA HAZWOPER First Responder Awareness and Operations, OSHA respirator use


    Key Responsibilities

    • Teach open enrollment and customized client environmental and safety courses at a variety of times and locations at client facilities and at our training center
    • Assist in the development of all course materials including student and instructor materials, handouts, student exercises and course presentations using Microsoft Power Point, Word and other graphics software
    • Amend and revise existing training programs as needed in order to adapt them to regulatory changes or best practices

    Skills / Qualifications


    • 3-5 years field experience as a safety and health trainer for adults in occupational settings
    • Knowledgeable of adult training principles and methods
    • An understanding and ability to carry out training development steps found in ANSI Z490.1-2009 Criteria for Acceptable Practices in Safety, Health, and Environmental Training
    • Knowledge of industry occupational safety and health regulations for general industry and construction settings in Oregon and Washington
    • Computer literacy that includes Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Outlook
    • Ability to present information effectively so the intended audience meets training objectives in a positive, supportive environment
    • Strong verbal skills
    • Ability to work with others at all levels of the organization
    • Must be a US citizen
    • Ability to travel


    • Excellent writing, proofreading, and design skills to develop training course materials
    • Completion of adult education/training course (train the trainer course) from an accredited training organization (OSHA, Red Cross, American Heart Association, etc.)
    • Pesticide License from Washington or Oregon.
    • Ability to perform respirator fit testing with a Portacount

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as, hard hats, ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, steel-toed boots, self-contained breathing apparatus
    • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces and climb stairs and ladders
    • Ability to drive to client locations
    • Ability to lift and carry thirty pounds
    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
