Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking an Entry-Level Geologist to join our team in Oakland or San Francisco, CA. The Oakland office, along with the Bay Area Wood regional offices, provides environmental services in soil, water, and air quality characterization and remediation; environmental regulatory compliance; municipal, industrial and construction practice stormwater NPDES compliance; and risk analysis.

 

As an Entry Level Geologist, you will work with multi-disciplinary teams on site characterization and remediation projects including hydrogeologic and environmental data collection; routine groundwater monitoring programs; remedial investigations and feasibility study analyses (e.g. soil characterization to delineate environmental excavations or pilot testing to inform in-situ remediation design); and data evaluation and management. These tasks include both technical writing and analysis. This position requires travel to field assignments about 25-50% of the time. All work performed within this position will be under the close supervision of the project manager or more senior personnel.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports mid- and senior-level personnel with site characterization, remedial investigation, monitoring
  • Assists in preparation of work plans and reports, including review and tabulation of data
  • Performs field sampling observations and data collection assignments
  • Performs environmental and engineering analyses
  • Coordinates site activities with contractors and subcontractors
  • Compiles information from reports and published documents; researches technical and regulatory requirements
  • Maintains strong verbal and written communications skills, including preparing drafts of technical and field reports
  • Assist in municipal or industrial NPDES stormwater inspections and field work
  • Understands and follows all applicable health and safety requirements in the field
  • May travel frequently to project sites, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • 0 - 3 years of related work experience required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geology required; must be from college/university which is ABET accredited
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors required
  • Ability to communicate clearly with on-site contractors, supervisor or Project Manager regarding work assignments required
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training and annual refresher course, if required
  • Ability to pursue certification/registration in Civil Engineering in California, required

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck; ability to drive a trailer helpful
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required
