Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking an Asbestos Bulk Sample Analyst to join our team in Atlanta, GA. The candidate should be self-motivated, with excellent time management skills. The ideal candidate will have 2 to 5 years experience in the analysis and reporting of bulk samples of building materials for asbestos content using Polarized Light Microscopy. However, consideration will be given to candidates that do not have this experience. Experience in asbestos inspection, asbestos abatement monitoring, and air sampling is also preferred but not required.


At times, candidate may also perform site investigations, assessments, and surveys to sample, measure and analyze air, water, and materials or to perform field observations. Projects may include building assessments and sampling for the presence of asbestos, leaded paint, mold, and performing project monitoring and air sampling. Identify, evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Independently receive, log, prep, analyze, and report bulk building material samples
  • Communicate effectively with staff
  • Coordinate with other Amec Foster Wheeler offices in related operations
  • Oversee delivery of quality products
  • Flexibility to perform asbestos inspections and regulated building material inventories

Skills / Qualifications


  • BS in Science, Engineering, or similar discipline
  • Evaluate laboratory and field data to prepare written reports
  • Prepare technical documents including proposals and reports
  • Serve as team member and participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors
  • Travel may be required in USA and internationally


The following experience is preferred in the ideal candidate; however, Amec Foster Wheeler will consider candidates that do not possess this experience:

  • Formal training in Asbestos Identification Using Polarized Light Microscopy (McCrone course(s) or equivalent).
  • Detailed knowledge of EPA 600/R-93/116 (PLM), EPA 600/R-93/116 (PLM Point Count), and EPA 600/M4-82-020 (PLM) analytical methods.
  • Certification for Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Dust (Air Samples using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) - NIOSH 7400 Method NIOSH 582 or equivalent course)
  • Accreditation as an Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Supervisor
