Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is seeking an Environmental Technician- Intern in our San Diego office. This position will perform a broad range of field activities associated with the environmental industry including Phase I due diligence investigations, Phase II and supplemental investigations to include environmental sample collection, and remediation activity and oversight. Experience with UST, TSCA, RCRA and CERCLA projects is a plus; experience with Navy, Marine Corps, or NAVFAC preferred. Must have solid communication, writing and scheduling skills. Must be able to budget time and resources. Successful applicant will interact with professional staff, geologists / engineers, as well as subcontractors and client staff. Duties will include work plan preparation, health and safety plans (HASP), quality assurance project plans (QAPP) writing, progress reporting, various Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessment reports, safety and quality management as well as performance and / or oversight of a broad scope of field services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance on environmental site investigation field work including: soil boring, installation and sampling, groundwater monitoring, soil vapor surveys, groundwater monitoring well drilling and well installation, soil and groundwater sampling, aquifer testing, data analysis and map preparation at various properties
  • Field data collection and documentation for environmental site assessments
  • Supervision of remedial contractors and environmental service providers
  • Assist in preparation of reports of data summaries
  • Coordinate and manage project tasks
  • Perform office activities including project planning, permitting, subcontractor coordination, data compilation and presentation and report preparation
  • Assist project managers and senior staff with assessment / monitoring and closure needs
  • Assist with work plan preparation
  • Document investigation / assessment activities

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS / BA Geology, Environmental Science or related Degree
  • 1 - 3+ years of previous environmental experience; experience with Navy, Marine Corps or NAVFAC is preferred
  • Strong writing and technical skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to balance a diverse and changing workload
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook and working knowledge of ACAD or willingness to learn
  • OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER trained and must have prior to job initiation date
